A Bit About Us

BRIEF HISTORY OF ADO BATTALION COUNCIL

Ado Battalion Council was formerly joined with other councils in Ekiti State such as Ekiti South, Ekiti Oke, Irepodun, Ifelodun etc., and collectively beared the name "Ekiti Central Council". Decentralization of Councils in the State soon became necessary as the State Council had started seeing itself at a standard level. To Obtain the Standard level, the State Council needed to increase Administrative Councils within its jurisdiction.

At a Central Meeting in the Boys' Brigade year 2008/2009 at Awo-Ekiti, one of the ancient and historical towns in Ekiti State under Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government which was constituted by State Veteran Officers and Elder Statemen, Ado Metropolis Council, and other Group Councils in Ekiti State Council were birthed, which remains the same till now.

Ado Metropolis as known is a major city in Ekiti State (also the Capital & business hub of the state), where we have people from various towns across the state and beyond settling as residents in the metropolis which is the only town with a Local Government Area to itself at the time.

With Ven. L.K Oladipupo as the Pioneer Chairman and Olutayo Charles Osetoba, Lt. (ANTO) as the pioneer Secretary, the first set of leaders of Ado Metropolis Council were agile and strategic enough to put the council into activeness, as they took it upon themselves to nurture the members of the council through programmes and training, and made sure the Metropolis Council was setting standards in the State Council and beyond. Three major aspects in which they groomed members were Drill, Band, and Christian Knowledge, which made Ado Battalion Council a force to reckon with in the State Council, and also a big challenge to other Councils at State Council competitions.

In the year 2015, Olutayo Charles Osetoba, Lt. (ANTO) handed over the baton to Emmanuel C. Ugwu, Capt. as the Secretary, and Ado Metropolis Council had Ven. Z. O. Ibitoye as the Chairman. The duo with their fellow Executives maintained the standard thoroughly and made sure Ado Metropolis Council didn’t settle for less in the major aspects. It was under this Administration that the Metropolis Council demanded for an upgrade to be referred to as a Battalion Council as it had more than the requisite 12 active Companies as stipulated by the constitution of the Boys' Brigade Nigeria. The Second Administration served from 2015 - 2018, as there was a delay in the Council’s elections due to reasons unavoidable at the time.

In the year 2018, the Third Administration got elected, with Ven. J. A. Olusesan emerging as the Chairman and Olawale Silas Oluwanifemi (ANTO) emerging as the Secretary. It was during this administration, on 30th December 2018, that Ado Metropolis Council was Inaugurated as a Battalion Council at Emmanuel Anglican Cathedral, Okesa, Ado-Ekiti.

  The Third Administration, which happens to also be the First Executives of Ado as a Battalion Council, worked tirelessly, maintaining the standard and bringing in new innovations. They worked with the four cardinal programmes of the Boys' Brigade (Physical, Mental, Social and Spiritual) and raised the battalion’s media and publicity standard as the first media team was inaugurated under their Administration at St. Peter's Anglican Church, Falegan, Ado-Ekiti.

The council also took part in civic duties as it organized a Walk for a Peaceful and Violence-Free Election in the year 2018, which was a year for gubernatorial Election in Ekiti State.

At the expiration of their tenure in 2020, an Election could not be conducted due to the Corona Virus (COVID-19) pandemic which scarred the whole world. The Administration in strict compliance with the Constitution handed over to an Interim Management until an election can be conducted.

The Interim Management has Emmanuel C. Ugwu, Capt. as the Chairman and Olumide N. Arowolo (NBS) as the Secretary. The interim Management through doggedness and a mentality of maintaining the standard, have been piloting the affairs of the Council as the Council approaches an election date, where a proper handing over will be done to elected Executives.

The council can not but mention veterans who contributed to the present Ado Battalion Council. The list is a long one but we have a few listed here;

  1. Engr. Olubunmi Ajayi (ANTO), a former State Secretary Organizer of Ekiti State Council and immediate past Zonal Coordinator of South-West Zonal Fellowship. He, as a member, who served as a captain of 61st Ekiti company here in Ado, paved the way for the Council when it seemed rough.

  2. Olumide Oke, Lt., a veteran who served as a Vice-Chairman in the Council with Olutayo Charles Osetoba (ANTO) as the Secretary, thanks for being part of the standard makers. He is currently a patron of the Council.

  3. Engr. Odunayo Fatore, a disciplinarian fondly referred to as Captain of all Captains for his long service as a captain, producing Boys and Officers who served/are still serving as Captains. A former Vice-President of Ekiti State Council and Captain of 2nd Ekiti company who completed his tenure as a Captain in December 2018. He is a man after Discipline and members’ personal welfarism.

  4. Temidayo Peter Akeredolu, Esq. (NTO), the immediate past Secretary Organizer of Ekiti State Council, former Public Relations Officer Ekiti State Council, and the Vice-Chairman who served with the second Administration. He completed his tenure as Captain of 61st Ekiti Company in the year 2019. A man who instilled Discipline at all times and played vital roles for Ado Metropolis to become Ado Battalion Council.

  5. Prince Agunbiade Ajibola, Capt. (NTO), one of the longest-serving Executive in both Ado Metropolis Council and Ado Battalion Council Era. He served meritoriously as Band Master and Training Officer. A serving Captain of 114th Ekiti company. He is the key man in the development of  Ado Metropolis ( now Battalion) Band Corps.

The list is long like we have said, but we will like to keep it short.
